The Long Climb Podcast is hosted and operated by Alan Rosales and John Davis, two individuals based in Colorado, United States. This policy explains what we collect when you visit thelongclimbpodcast.com, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
The short version: we collect your name and email address only if you choose to give them to us, we use them only to send you updates about the show, and we do not sell them to anyone.
1. Who we are
The Long Climb Podcast is operated personally by Alan Rosales and John Davis. We are not incorporated. For anything in this policy, you can reach us at the address in section 11.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
The only form on this site is the "Join the Climb" signup. It asks for two things:
- Your name
- Your email address
When you submit that form, both values are saved in this website's database and a copy is emailed to us so we know you signed up. Nothing else on the site asks you for personal information.
Information collected automatically
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. These records typically include:
- Your IP address
- Your browser type and operating system
- The pages you requested and when
- The site you came from, if any
We use these only to keep the site running and secure. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
3. What we do not do
We think it is worth being specific about this. On this website we do not:
- Run analytics software such as Google Analytics
- Run advertising or retargeting pixels
- Set tracking or advertising cookies
- Sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone
- Share your email address with other companies for their own marketing
4. How we use your information
If you sign up through the form, we use your name and email address to send you updates about The Long Climb Podcast: new episodes, show news, and occasional notes from us. That is the only thing we use the list for.
We use server log data to diagnose problems, protect the site from abuse, and understand roughly how much traffic we are getting.
Unsubscribing
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at any time and ask to be removed, and we will take you off the list and delete your details. We do not need a reason.
5. Cookies
This site does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, which is why you are not asked to accept or reject cookies when you arrive. Our website builder sets page-view and session-count cookies by default; we have turned that off, so those are not created either. The only cookies this site may set are the ones WordPress uses to keep a site administrator logged in, and those apply to us, not to you.
6. Third parties
Web hosting
The site is hosted on third-party infrastructure. Our host processes the server log data described above on our behalf in order to serve the site to you.
Google Fonts
The typefaces used on this site are served by Google Fonts. When your browser loads a page, it requests those font files from Google's servers, which means your IP address is visible to Google as part of that request. Google's handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy.
Links to other services
We link out to Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. These are ordinary links, not embedded players or widgets, so those companies do not receive anything about you unless you click through. Once you do, you are on their site and their privacy policy applies, not ours.
7. How long we keep it
- Signup details: kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, then removed from the mailing list and the website database.
- Server logs: retained by our host on a rolling basis, typically for a short period, then overwritten.
8. How we protect it
The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and access to the website's administration area is limited to us and protected by a password. No website can promise perfect security, and we are not going to pretend otherwise, but we take reasonable steps to keep what you give us safe.
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete it
- Stop emailing you
Email us and we will action it. We will not charge you and we will not make it difficult.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to receive a copy of your data in a portable format, to object to processing, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Our lawful basis for emailing you is your consent, which you gave by submitting the form and can withdraw at any time.
If you are a resident of Colorado, California, or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have comparable rights to know, correct, and delete. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of on that front.
10. Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.
11. Contact us
For any privacy question, request, or complaint, email us at:
[email protected]12. Changes to this policy
If we start using analytics, add embedded players, or change how we use your information in any other meaningful way, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be announced to the mailing list.
